29th October 2004 saw the opening of The Merchant Irish Bar in the heart of this wonderful seaside town, Scarborough. The vision was to create a place that was traditionally Irish, less about the Shamrocks (although of course, they do pop up sometimes!) and more about the community, the craic and the music – a place where everybody feels comfortable whether 18 or 80, the kind of pub you find in small towns all over Ireland.
That was achieved, that and more. The Merchant has become synonymous with a great night out, it has become a meeting place for musicians and a home from home for many customers who enjoy the special atmosphere and indefinable ‘something’ that The Merchant has to offer.
In 2014 we marked our 10th anniversary, The Merchant underwent a major renovation, to take the pub forward for the next 10 years. The one thing we always want to keep is the special atmosphere that The Merchant has and will always be a great place to while away the hours with a pint of Guinness, a bit of music and a roaring fire.
This year, 2022, sees The Merchant turn 18 years old, allowing the pub to legally be allowed to drink. As always, we will be celebrating in true Irish style and invite all customers, past present and future to join us for the usual Merchant craic.
We would also like to thank all the customers we have had over the last 18 years and look forward to many more years to come.
